Carrillo Wedding – Be My Groomsman?
– Asking Your Groomsmen with Custom Jack Daniels in Coffins-
Devin and I decided early on in our engagement that we wanted to do something special to ask everyone to be in our wedding party. I had a pretty concise vision for the Bridesmaids, but for the Groomsmen, Devin developed it bit by bit.
It first started with coffins, Devin liked the idea of sending something to the guys inside of a coffin, he wasn’t sure what, but knew that a coffin would be the packaging. It’s a fun play on the idea that once you get married you are dead to your friends, or it’s the death of your former single life, the typical game over, ball and chain type of thing.
We found wooden coffins online, Devin and I distressed them with a hammer and stained them a dark mahogany color. As a finishing touch we engraved each of their names on a metal plate and glued it to the front of the coffin.
Devin was having a hard time deciding what he actually wanted to put inside of the coffin; we toyed with the idea of cigars, or beer bottles, and then he got the idea of Jack bottles. Jack has always been their drink of choice, it was so obvious that we overlooked it! We found a guy online who designed the custom labels (he since no longer has the same website address, so check on ETSY, I’m sure someone on there sells them), we incorporated our wedding date, their name and role in the wedding party, and Old No. 138 Brand, a throw back to their Misfit listening days.
The very last thing Devin added was a note he wrote to each of the guys asking them to be in the wedding party.
The gifts went over so well with each of the guys, everyone called responding with an ecstatic yes! Devin and I thought it was a nice way of getting everything started on a nice festive foot, it’s not cheap being in someone’s wedding, so a small gift when asking them to be apart of it goes a long way!
