Destination: Brooklyn Bridge, NY
– Brooklyn Bridge, New York –
The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most recognizable New York icons. Even if you’ve never been to New York, one look at the bridge in a photo or movie automatically distinguishes it as the “Brooklyn Bridge, New York”.
So finally after living in New Jersey for 1/2 a year, Devin and I took the opportunity to be tourist for the day and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Getting to the Brooklyn Bridge from Hoboken isn’t the most convenient, it requires a switching to two different trains, but once you get off the 4/5 at City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge it’s immediately to the left and super easy to find. (If you’re lost just follow the crowd of people).
We happened to go on a weekend, in the middle of the afternoon, on one of the first nice winter days we’d had in a long time, so naturally it was crowded. If you want to avoid the crowds go midweek, in the afternoon, before sunset, everyone tries to go at sunset, so all your Instagram worthy photos are going to be ruined by other tourist.
The walk is a little less than a mile, and takes about 25 minutes. On the Brooklyn side you can eat at Grimaldi’s (I’ve never been to the Brooklyn one, but we have 2 in Hoboken that I’ve been to and Love), grab Ice Cream, or hit up some bars in Brooklyn Heights, which is what we did. You can also walk from Brooklyn to New York so that the skyline is in the background of all of your photos.
Whatever you choose, walking the Brooklyn Bridge is always a fun, iconic, New York thing to do.
