Destination: Blue Mountains, Australia

– A Day Trip to the Blue Mountains –

Blue Mountains 1

After spending a few days in Sydney wandering the city, Devin and I were ready to escape into nature, so we took a short train ride to the Blue Mountains and it was breathtaking!

Getting there was really easy, the train was a straight shot with no transfers and cost about $6.  It took about 2 1/2 hours which easily passed as we ate and drank on the way there. It’s a short walk from the train station to the National Park and in the little town there are a few pubs to grab a drink and bite at if you desire.

There were a ton of different trails to choose from depending on skill level and time, but since we only had a few hours and weren’t necessarily prepared to do intense hiking we chose the Prince Henry Cliff Walk to Giant Stairway to Federal Pass and returned to the top using the Scenic Railway. It’s about a 4 mile hike, took about 2 1/2 hours and was fairly easy if you took out the 900 stairs we climbed, luckily we were going down and not up! (List of Trails).

The scenery all around us was quite beautiful with a few small waterfalls and lots of foliage. It was well worth getting out of the city for the day and avoiding tourist attractions like climbing the Harbor bridge, not that there’s anything wrong with that! If you like a good bushwalk, as they say in Oz, then the Blue Mountains is definitely somewhere you should check out!

xoxo,
Andrea
